Off To A Good Start.
Here it is! The first blog post of a fresh show. It is an exhilarating time, but can also be quite nerve-racking. Although auditions have only been going on for a few days, The Drowsy Chaperone has been months in the making. The creative team has been working diligently to come up with a cohesive design and plan of attack for this show. We are too excited to share that plan with the cast (which will be announced Friday) and crew.
There are many exciting things happening for this production. For the first time in nearly five years, the musical will be accompanied by a live pit orchestra. This ensemble will be made up primarily of Mt. Vernon musicians. They will be performing on stage! More details to come on that situation.
We saw 37 people at auditions this year. A great number! It makes filling the 23 parts INCREDIBLY difficult. Everyone is so talented. Mt. Vernon is very fortunate to have access to such a pool of actors and craftspeople. All of these elements will provide the perfect environment to present a quality musical that students, staff, and the community will be proud of. As we stumble along, cast and crew as well as directors will post here so that friends and family can have a sneak peek into what all goes into putting a show together.
As we start this process, something Ernest Hemingway once penned comes to mind:
"It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end."
Here's to the start of that journey,
- Andrew.
